IWSC Mezcal Trophy 2024

The International Wine & Spirits Competition - or IWSC - is the oldest drinks industry competition in the world, and widely considered to be the most prestigious. Entries are submitted from over 90 countries worldwide, and put to a blind taste test by industry veterans, in the hope of winning a Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Gold Outstanding award.

Back in June we found out that our Espadín had been awarded a Gold Outstanding with a score of 98/100, giving us the joint highest score in the Mezcal category. This month we were informed that, following a 2nd round of tastings, we had been awarded the overall Mezcal Trophy as the best liquid of 2024.

Big thanks to the judges: Anthony Moss MW of the WSET, Deano Moncrieffe of Hacha Bars, Cristian Silenzi of Corinthia, James Phillips of Jeroboams, and Simone Spagnioli of Inception Group, for their esteemed palate and their on-point tasting notes:

"Powerfully elegant with a bright florality, subtle rose and layers of pithy lime, creamy agave and appealing minerality. Rich and rounded, the agave is juicy and cooling with smoky undertones. Heady, heavenly, and herbal on a long, spicy finish."

We couldn't be happier. We've always known Onofre's Espadín slaps, but it's great to get that affirmation. And it's amazing to know that when you take away any pre-conceptions, our Espadín can compete with bottles costing 3 times as much.

We even got a cheeky feature in Forbes: The World's Best Tequila And Mezcal.
