Especial forms a limited series showcasing spirits produced from rare and wild agaves. Sourced from batches too small to be considered for mezcal certification, these spirits represent traditional subsistance mezcalero culture. Each batch is unique and un-repeatable.
FX2 is a pure Tobaxiche from Felipe Cortes in Mengoli, Miahuatlán. Tobaxiche is a rare and prized agave - a variety of the Karwinskii species - and Felipe is a legendary meastro. The combination is nothing short of sensational.
The aroma is full of orange zest, dried chilies, and thyme, with a comforting layer of banana, vanilla, and muscovado sugar. The palate kicks off with the richer notes of vanilla, stewed bananas and caramel, before brighter notes burst through: dried mango, pineapple and raspberries with mouth-watering savoury citrus – like a Mexican fruit salad drenched in lime, Chamoy and Tajin. Smoke is present, but background - you’re near a fire but not next to it. The finish is zesty and mineral and very morish.
